i rarely find books that explore the end of childhood or long-term friendships especially ones shaped by years of familiarity falling apart because of growth or the realization of mutual (or even one-sided) codependency or quiet toxicity along the same vein.
i’m thinking of normal people by Sally Rooney
but platonic. what i loved about that novel was how marianne and connell connect deeply yet still can’t make their relationship work whether as friends or romantically. no matter how much they care and love each other they can't do it right.
i’m looking for something in a similar vein but focused on friendship rather than romance. preferably literary fiction.
thank you in advance<33
