Recently got back into reading after being recommended ‘Alchemised’ (yes I know it’s actually a fanfic lol) and enjoyed it. Would prefer something more thought provoking with less romance. Interested in reading more fantasy but also have been told I’d enjoy thrillers. I love a well written power-system and not being able to guess what will happen next. Darker themes are a major plus. Politics and real world issues are welcomed. I’m a straight mid 20’s guy and the only people I can talk to about books are all fantasy-romance ladies if that helps shed light on my situation.

Divine Cities trilogy by Robert Jackson Bennett- Themes revolves around colonization and geopolitics.

Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson- A massive series that covers more themes than I know. Dark, detailed world filled rich history and lore and many, many complex characters.

The Books of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin- Very interesting world that covers many interesting themes, including feminism.
