As I'm embarking on a 10 month solo backpacking trip, I'm looking for personal, inspiring stories from strong, independent woman. Something like
- Becoming
- Finding my way
- The third gilmore
- Wild
- Eat, pray, love
- Educated
or more niche books such as
- SOLO: A true story of spirit, adventure & the life-changing power of running alone
- Good for a girl
I did not like "I'm glad my mom died" and "the year of magical thinking".
Thank you!! 🙂

define strong woman
* Breath: A Lifetime in the Rhythm of an Iron Lung (Martha Mason)
* Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? (Jeanette Winterson)
* My Mother Was Nuts (Penny Marshall)
* Notes from the Underwire (Quinn Cummings)
* Autobiography of a Face (Lucy Grealy)
* Swing Low (Miriam Toews)
* Girls of Tender Age (Mary-Ann Tirone Smith)
* Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life (Amy Krouse Rosenthal)
* Tell Me Everything (Minka Kelly)
* We Are Too Many (Hannah Pittard)
* Apparently There Were Complaints (Sharon Gless)
*A Room of One’s Own* by Virginia Woolf. It affected me deeply. It’s a feminist text written in 1929 that argues for financial independence and space (literal and metaphorical) to create art (such as literature). It discusses societal constraints on women including lack of education and financial dependence. I read it so many years ago that I need to read it again!
King Kong theory by Virginie Despentes
Glass castle by Jeannette Walls (although this one reads very much like a fiction)
Wild by Cheryl Strayed (her Tiny beautiful things might work as well)
I just finished Lands of Lost Borders (A Journey on the Silk Road) by Kate Harris and it fits the bill!
