Hello! I'm writing and romance between a British Prince and his valet, so I need to dive deep into the genre. Problem is, I never really read them until recently. So I would love to hear the ones you love 🙂
I'd prefer anything contemporary/modern, but I wouldn't mind historical fiction (from the 19th century to now, but the 1990s-2000s are ideal). Setting in England (or anywhere in Britain?). Forbidden romance and/or enemies to lovers. Anything that's kind of like the story I'm going to write so I can learn how other authors executed them well! HEAVY PREFERENCE to MLM, even better if there are trans rep! I also don't mind spice.
HOWEVER, if there is a Victorian sailor love story, I would like that too <3
I ADORE 'The Rachel Incident' by Caroline O'Donoghue. It's a bit more coming-of-age and set in Ireland for the majority of the book, but goodness it's just so human. I love how Rachel's relationship with James and Carry develop throughout, the highs and lows. I'm also listening to 'Maame' by Jessica George and like it so far! I feel for Maddy and how painful it is to branch out and live freely.
Other books that I liked that are different are everything Andrew Joseph White has written (despite me growing out of the YA genre), Blackouts by Justin Torres, and Open Throat by Henry Hoke (I know, the MC is a cougar, but I liked the feeling of being an outsider trying to understand others)
I've put 'The New Life' by Tom Crewe and Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson to my TBR as well. 🙂
Hopefully this isn't too much info!!
