I'm having trouble focusing on stuff but want to get back into reading to participate in a reading group with my sister. I like B-movie horror because plots might have a twist or two, but they're pretty formulaic; focus is on action more than characterization, so the story keeps rolling no matter what; I more or less know how the story is going to end; and they're not particularly scary, despite being in the horror genre. Movies I recently watched that are in the kind of vein I'm looking for are Underwater (2020), Tremors (1990), The Lost World (1997), and Kong: Skull Island (2017). Books need to be 200 pages or longer to count for the challenge, so despite enjoying Burrunjor by John Rust, I can't use it. Creature features are preferred. Any suggestions?
