I started something I’ve been calling ‘sample speed dating’, whereby I gathered ebook samples of a range of authors I see recommended but have never read from, and in each case read the first chapter.
I had the intention of choosing one to start in full, but I find actually I’m just enjoying the process.
There’s something quite compelling about reading just one chapter, often with no idea what the book is even about. I then make a quick note – yes, no, maybe, any particular vibes. Feels a bit like playing at being a literary agent 😁
I’ve got some great new ideas out of it but also surprised how much I just enjoyed it as an activity.
I have a bit of internalised completionism and reading goal-core when it comes to reading and a little voice did say ‘this is a waste of time, just pick one!’ And it was nice to choose to actively shut that up.
