Is there a modern true crime writer like Ann Rule?

I really love a lot of Ann Rule books. I’ve tried to read some more recently published true crime, but many of them seem to be written by podcasters who are more interested in writing about themselves than the case (No, author, I don’t care that you were drinking mimosas on the beach when you heard the news…)

I’ve read The Devil At His Elbow recently and found that one VERY good. I was wondering if there was a consistent true crime writer out there like Ann Rule in her prime.
