essential reads for someone at a high reading level who hasn’t read much outside school?

i just finished blood meridian without any issues as a bit of a reference. i’d love to find something a little philosophical but i’ll read just about anything that’s not a mystery/crime novel. been thinking about infinite jest but ive heard a lot of people say it’s pretentious
