Short form content is frying my brain. I used to speed run through multiple books as a teen, but now I rarely read. I’ve probably read 6 books in the past 5 years, some are repeats.

Some of my favourite stories are:

Monk and Robot (currently reading.. can already tell it’ll be a fave)

    Demon Copperhead

    Where The Crawdads Sing

Enlightenment of the Greengage Tree (one of my all time faves)

    The Obernewtyn Chronicals

The Earths Children series (Clan of the Cave Bear etc.. I’ve read this series maybe 5 times over)

    A Fortunate Life

I seem to swing towards historical fiction/ fantasy, and stories revolving around a central character who faces a lot of adversity in life/ suffers at the hands of bad people and is “alone” but eventually finds themselves/ their people/ a safe and happy life (relatable)

    Thank you so much!

    1. Because I can’t edit my post 😓

Monk and Robot: “a tea monk named Dex has their quiet life upended when a robot, Mosscap, appears to honor an ancient promise to check in on humanity. Set in a thoughtful, post-utopian world, the duo travels together, with Mosscap seeking to answer the fundamental question: “What do people need?”. “

Demon Copperhead: “set in the Appalachian mountains. It follows Damon “Demon” Fields, a boy with copper-colored hair and a fierce will to survive, as he navigates foster care, addiction, rural poverty, and the opioid crisis”

Where The Crawdads Sing: “It follows Kya Clark, the “Marsh Girl,” who survives alone after being abandoned as a child. When a local man is found dead in 1969, suspicion falls on her, forcing her to confront prejudice and her own isolation”

Enlightenment Of The Greengage Tree: “a magical realist novel narrated by the ghost of thirteen-year-old Bahar, whose family flees post-1979 revolution Tehran for a rural village. It explores the trauma, beauty, and political brutality of Iran through the family’s, and particularly the mother’s, struggle to find meaning. “

Obernewtyn Chronicals: “In a post-apocalyptic world, Elspeth Gordie hides her dangerous mental abilities to avoid being persecuted by a totalitarian Council. Exiled to the mysterious mountain compound of Obernewtyn, she discovers other “Misfits” and must decide whether to use her powers to stop a sinister plot, risking her life”

Clan Of The Cave Bear (etc): “a landmark prehistoric saga following Ayla, a resourceful Cro-Magnon girl orphaned by an earthquake and adopted by a Neanderthal clan in Ice Age Europe. As she struggles for acceptance, she navigates cultural divides, survival challenges, and a journey toward love, knowledge, and self-discovery”

A Fortunate Life: “a classic Australian autobiography chronicling the extraordinary life of an ordinary man. Despite enduring extreme childhood poverty, horrific wartime experiences at Gallipoli, and personal tragedies, Facey maintained a remarkably optimistic outlook, viewing his life of hardship as truly “fortunate” due to his love for his family and his resilience”

Just in case you don’t know the books… gives you an idea of the stories I seem to gravitate towards.
