As the title says , I just watched the recent movie review and have never actually watched any version or adaptation. I'm actually thinking if I should read it? If yes, then what are a few parts that made you pause for a while, if you had any? Also, did it mentions detailed abuse depictions?

Yeah definitely read it! The book hits different than any movie adaptation 📚 Heathcliff is absolutely unhinged in ways that will make you uncomfortable – there’s psychological abuse for sure but not super graphic physical stuff. What made me pause was how toxic literally everyone becomes, like the cycle of revenge just destroys multiple generations 💀
Yes. It was on the curriculum in secondary school.
Having to disect it for school didn’t even ruin, it so that’s probably a good sign.
Check out Standard Ebooks or Project Gutenberg and read the epub or PDF for free. It is available there legitimately. It is out of copyright.
Your local library should also have copies.
It was a set text.
The last paragraph has stuck with me the last 40 odd years.
The book is quite different to most adaptations. A lot happens after Cathy’s death but most adaptations end there as they tend to just focus on the ‘romance’. The book is much more a gothic story of generational trauma.
Yes, in high school and then again at the university. I am not thrilled about this new “adaptation”.
Go ahead and be ready to look up terms you might not be familiar with like lascar, which is used to describe Heathcliff’s dark complexion.
I read it twice. Once when I was like 13 and loved it. Recently reread it before I knew about the new movie. And really I was left wondering what 13 year old me loved so much.
If you find it hard to read their are chapter by chapter summaries on YouTube. Classics are hard and it helped me understand what was happening easier
I recently listened to the audiobook and tbh I found it very dull… the ending is actually very good, but the main plot is given away very early which just made it quite boring imo.
I cannot even express how much I hate this book. I love the classics, but this book was, for me, the worst of all time. Not a single likeable or relatable character in sight. I just wanted them all to hurry up and die (bonus points for violently) so that I could read something else, anything else.
