As someone who’s currently setting up a book club for high schoolers. What are some good books that could allow for discussion between some of my students who just want to experience the book and my more book savvy students? I would want to do a mix of literary classics while also doing some more modern works. I don’t have a lot of experience with picking out books that’ll be big hits with the students as I’m a bit newer.
Thank you for your time and consideration! Have an amazing week!

The old man and the sea
I’m not sure how strict your club is regarding content, but as a former high school teacher and current college prof in English, some of the most popular books my students have read include: Who Put This Song On?, On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous, Beartown, The Bell Jar, Out of Darkness, and Internment (by Sara Saedi). For nonfiction, you might look into Dear America (Jose Vargas), Children of the Land, Educated, and Americanized.
Very timely books are:
Sanctuary by Abby Sher and Paola Mendoza
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Poetry X by Eliz. Acevedo
