My only exposure has been Shadowplay by Tim Marshall, looking for another book on the history and culture of the area Ottoman, Yugoslavia, contemporary, anything is good
For Ottomans, I recommend Lords Of The Horizons by Jason Goodwin. He also does the Yashim novels of an Ottoman foodie detective.
In the movie Notting Hill, Julia Roberts is in Hugh Grant’s travel bookshop looking at a book on Turkey. He recommends a different one, John Freely’s Istanbul.

Are you up for some old-school books (and how old in that case)? There’s always old travelogues that can be interesting.
