I've been in a reading slump for the past year due to my sister passing away.
last night, I read "Notes on Your Sudden Disappearance" by Alison Espach. I literally could not put it down due to feeling so seen.
books I've read and loved that stand out to me still:
– Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow
– The Secret Lives of Church Ladies by Deesha Philyaw
– My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell
– Milk Blood Heat by Dantiel W. Moniz
what im looking for in suggestions:
– not specifically looking for books featuring sibling grief, but they are appreciated
– main character with some sort of struggle with mental illness
– I love literary fiction while also hating falsely deep or superficial main characters (think intermezzo by Sally Rooney, I put this down within 20 pages because both main characters were insufferable and terrible and I dont care if thats the point of the book). main characters can be flawed, but not fully evil and pessimistic
– nothing that tries too hard on being smart or well written in pretentious way
– something that will make me want to read it in one sitting, even if that's not possible due to length
