My friends and I are doing a small book club. Our book club specifically centers around spicy romances that explore different kinks and have critical discussions about the kink portrayed in the books. These kinks have included standard sci-fi like alien abduction scenarios and contemporary BDSM. Future topics include historical, monsters, non-fiction, etc.
We are running into a problem, however. Most of what we find are genuinely trash novels with writing so poor you want to claw your eyes out.
Are there any books out there that encompass the topics of our book club but are actually decently written? It’s hard to get into the sexy when the characters make the stupidest decisions just to get to the sex.

I recommend her books a lot, but Katee Robert does an amazing job in her novels exploring sex and kink and they’re generally really well written.
Sara Cate and Sierra Simone are another two that do pretty well thought out spicy romance.
The Duke I Tempted, by Scarlett Peckham
I’m sure I won’t be the only one to suggest this, but absolutely look into Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey. The writing is exquisite, and while there’s spice and kink, it’s relevant to the world’s (very light) magic system and religion, it’s not trash porn. Plus there’s so much else going on in the plot as well, like war and political drama. Highly recommend.
