I was reading the Bear and the Nightingale (not finished, so no spoilers!) and was super into the Russian folklore and prose. Especially when, early on, the king Frost was described as a crackle of wind or a scrawny old man or a rough-hewn warrior. But I was let down when he showed up and his true form was the typical “strong and slender man” who’s tall and handsome, etc. Is there a book out there that has a love interest that isn’t conventionally attractive or conventional at all (such as being more than human)?
NOTE: I’m not looking for romance books per se, but rather books that include romance. I don’t really like fantasy as a genre but can check it out if it’s unique.
