Request: Self-discovery without the sappy romance tropes
I’ve read a lot of psych-thrillers in recent years, and when I watch movies, they’re usually in the same genre. However, I’d like to start a new chapter now—my life events make it necessary.
I’m looking for books that aren’t sappy romances, but stories where the protagonist/heroine finds herself on her own, without a husband/partner/ companion, and finally finds happiness—perhaps even by moving to a new country.
But I’m begging you: let her not fall in love with the first grumpy waiter, postman, or neighbor she meets. Let her remain happy and complete all by herself!
If such a book doesn't exist, maybe I’ll have to write it myself ☺️.

Here One Moment – By Liane Moriarty
There’s some romance and marriage stuff in there, but certainly not the sappy kind, nor is it the focus.
It’s not so much about the protagonist “finding themselves” but definitely touches on personal growth and introspection
‘Castaway’ by Lucy Irvine (1983). It’s not connected to the movie with Tom Hanks.
It’s the true story of a woman who agrees to live on a deserted island for a year with a complete stranger.
