Are there any books out there that are similar to gangs of New York. Talking about the history of ruffians and crime in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It doesn’t need to be about New York. I’m interested in the crime of other major cities like Philadelphia, or DC, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, or even down south in Atlanta or Saint Louis.

    Non fiction if possible.

    Thank you in advance!

Rhe authour Herbert Asbury also wrote books about the French Quarter, Chicago, and San Francisco.

I know New Orleanms well, I am not sure you can take it as for sure non-fiction…it’s like a collection of storied by and about larger than life criminals…and those stories can’t be taken as gospel…but a fun read and the vibe is right even if we can’t prove the stories.

I never read hos other ones.
