I'm looking for works of fiction that feature characters feeling guilt that is totally warranted, since they knowingly made the choice to do something they knew was evil, and coping (or failing to cope) with it. The character feeling the guilt doesn't need to be the protagonist, and it doesn't need to be the central theme of the work, as long as it is explored in some capacity.
Thanks in advance!
