Going through a tough time right now facing the likelihood of a life childfree not by choice following several losses, infertility and disability. I’ve lost my joy for reading where the focus is so often on building a family. I’m really hoping for something immersive that will help take me out of my head and remind me there’s a big old world out there. Thank you.

The Monk and Robot series by Becky Chambers. There are children in this book, but the focus is on a monk who is searching for what makes a happy life and the sentient robot they befriend on their travels. The only children I recall are siblings of the monk, who are barely mentioned, and the occasional child in a village they visit. Building a family through having children is not the focus of these books.

I hope you find some books that bring you comfort and help you rediscover your joy in reading.
