I would love to find more horror that’s similar in its execution. Specifically, what I really loved and what unsettled me most in Strange Pictures was the blog post section and the children’s drawings. I’m not entirely sure why, but they really got under my skin. I was disturbed by the idea that seemingly normal children’s drawings and blog posts could conceal something deliberately malicious.
Most horror novels don’t usually scare me that much, but this one genuinely did at times. I feel a bit babyish admitting it, but there were points where I was actually nervous to keep reading.
Are there other books that explore similar themes, where something innocent hides something deeply unsettling? I’m thinking of that uncanny valley kind of feeling, where something looks normal at first, but then on closer inspection reveals an entirely different and disturbing meaning underneath.
