I’ve been on a fantasy kick lately and looking for a particular type of character feature: the wizard with Machinations. The character who has thought ahead, using magic and their mind, to plan for contingency. They don’t necessarily need to be the main character, but should be a significant feature in the story. In fact, it probably is better if they aren’t, seeing as machinations are more fun as a reveal, but I do think it would be an interesting perspective to follow their schemes across time.
I recently read through the first law series and loved the character Bayaz, who without too much spoilers, has machinations. I also read the first two books form magician series and I was less impressed with the Marcos character in that book, I think because it wasn’t foreshadowed as much.
Bonus points if it a a mid to low fantasy where magic is unknown or tested with suspicion.
