Hi. I've been looking for a good fantasy for a while now and I'm kinda sick of plain romantasy and young adult stuff. The male characters (love interests) I keep reading are often boiled down to "tall, strong, manly", growling instead of talking, and generally insufferable.
I'm still a beginner and I'm a casual reader. I don't like it when the book feels too much like a history lesson, but I don't like it when it's too shallow. I'm a sucker for a good romance, that's a big priority for me – and also the reason I fall for these YA "romantasy" books that kind of just disappoint me. I also love good worldbuilding (and books with maps).
My all time favorite are the Hunger games books (especially loved Sunrise on the reaping). I'm also open to post-apocalyptic books!
I've recently read:
– Fourth wing (1-3) – liked it a lot, but all the romance felt very cringe – to the point I skipped it completely, but I loved how the dragons and the magic were written
– ACOTAR – didn't like it, the male characters and the romance was so bad
– Throne of glass (1-4) – liked it, but again, the romance (and male characters) feels forced and kinda ruins the book(s) for me, but otherwise I do like it a lot
– Equal rites – loved that one, but I'm looking for something longer and deeper
– Fire and blood – didn't like it, it was too long and boring, it was just too much for me
These books are in my "want to read" list:
– Six of crows
– The name of the wind
– Nevernight
Thank you everyone for suggestions. I'm still at the point of trying new books and genres, I don't really have a set style of books I enjoy.
