I have finished all of Neal Stephenon's books and I am little sad that there is nothing left for me to read. I am looking for similar authors that can tell a great story and jam their books full of interesting information where I actually learn something and feel a little smarter after each one. Some people don't like his pages of info dumps and yes his writing has its flaws but I love it. I love sci fi but I am open to anything that is well written and well researched.

The closest I’ve found so far would be James Clavell. Shogun, King Rat, etc. the wholes series is great, more traditional historical fiction so it doesn’t quite scratch the itch for a good tech info-dump, but the vibes are the same.
Umberto Eco comes to mind.
Baudolino.
And maybe also The Island of the day before.
Hilary Mantels trilogy about Cromwell and Henry VIII.
Victor Hugo is pretty good at yapping like Neal Stephenson, you might enjoy his books!
Kim Stanley Robinson. His Mars trilogy is popular.
