Hello everyone! Can you please recommend a novel that is slightly more literary when it comes to themes and emotions, but that also doesn't shy away from fantasy/sci-fi, alternate reality etc. The next book I am looking for doesn't have to have intense world building but it focusses on characters, on people, and lets your imagination run wild.
I don't want romantasy or pulpy novels please.
Last fiction books I've read recently:
– the Metamorphosis by Kafka (liked it)
– Counselling for Toads: A Psychological Adventure (liked it)
– the expanse #5 – Nemesis Gate by James Corey (loved it)
– La Horde du Contrevent by Damasio (mixed bag but mostly liked it)
– Sweet Bean Paste by Sukegawa (liked it)
Some of my favourite novels are Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and Piranesi, both by Susanna Clarke, the Riyria Revelations series by Michael J Sullivan, and various Joe Abercrombie novels (hit or miss but the good ones are really good).
Thanks in advance!

PS: I appreciate human recommendations, I’d rather not ask AI to suggest to me what book I should read to connect with my and other people’s humanity. A bit dystopian, that.
Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr fits your specs and is a brilliant book
If you’re fine with feeling lost for 100 pages or so, dive into The Darkness That Comes Before by Bakker.
