I'm looking to increase my understanding of architecture for this novel I am working on and am looking for a book (hopefully not a text book, but I'll take what I can get), that explains briefly and simply the names of parts of buildings and houses. It could be like an intro to architecture or something. Also if you know of a book that spells out how some of our greatest buildings/structures (St. Paul's cathedral, the Coliseum, the Statue of Liberty, etc.) were built.
The other day I was walking to my house, and saw on the roof of a house three little fans/vents spinning and I wanted to know what they were called. I could google it I guess, but I'm trying to take a more systematic approach.
