Looking for similar characters like Miles Teg in dune, Samuel vines in the discworld books and maybe Gandalf.
Trying to elaborate some more on what I mean: all of them are beholden to some kind of a higher standard for their own reasons and of their own choosing. Miles at some point becomes insanely powerful and it's a joy to read, while vimes bursts of violence always make him look even more in control of his powers than one would have expected.
Any books come to mind that have someone like that in them?
