I work with students who broadly have low literacy, and one of the things we're piloting is starting a "book club" class that requires at least 15 minutes a day of reading in any book that interests them. Because most of our students are also flat broke, I will be purchasing some used books and handing them out based on their personal interests.

The thing is that I already know a few students will pick romance as their favorite genre, since that came up in class the other day. And I…know very little about romance. It's just not my genre. The other issue is that I want something that will be interesting for their age/grade level without being extremely sexual or problematic, and I don't know where to start. It seems like most of the romance-loving booktubers I stumble across are big on the spice, and no judgment, but I don't want anybody feeling embarrassed when they share their reading log with their classmates.

Does anybody have any suggestions for books I could put on the shelf? Young adult would probably be best based on their reading levels, but mainstream adult books that aren't too complex would work as well.

    Thank you in advance.

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. No sex iirc but certainly some heavier themes.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han.

The Fault in Our Stars, although a bit of a romantic tragedy.
