So I've found that I really don't enjoy memoirs written by famous people, but I really like reading about people who grew up (or otherwise lived through) difficult circumstances or in a unique subculture. Educated by Tara Westover and I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy are popular examples of the type of thing I'm looking for, also Unorthodox by Deborah Feldman and my lesser-known favorite, Sickened by Julie Gregory.
