these are both genres i enjoy im just looking for a book to beach read on spring break and/or listen to on the drive that i don’t need to be super focused on to get and isnt sad but also i just read heated rivalry with my book club so i want a pallet cleanser from that kind of romance.
i dont need it to be a love story but i do prefer character driven novels and fantasy/fictional politics are not for me. definitely doesn’t have to be beachy but i am over winter.
here are some books i’ve liked from both genres!
super romancey romance:
– people we meet on vacation by emily henry
– twice shy sarah hogle (hated the ending but i did read it all in one sitting lol)
literary fiction:
– on earth were briefly gorgeous by ocean vuong
– this is how you lose the time war by amal el-mohtar
bonus points if it’s not an audible exclusive audiobook wise.

Beartown series by Fredrick Backman, Winter in Paradise series by Elin Hilderbrand, Sex and Lies by Kevin Kwan, The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai
Something Sally Rooney? I’d say she’s somewhere between the two, I personally didn’t enjoy Normal People much and I absolutely LOVED Intermezzo but it’s not really a light beach read, Beautiful World Where Are You or Conversations with Friends would work great though!
