Book where a Mage / Wizard usurps a kingdom that prosecutes people with magic?

I know this is extremely niche lmaoooo. Anything that comes to mind when you read this, feel free to suggest. I’m okay with violence and sexual themes. I love fantasy and mages. I’d prefer it if the wizard is a male tho.
