Need recommendations for world building books similar to Shadow of the Wind/ Pillars of the Earth

Hey! I’m looking for book recommendations similar to Shadow of the Wind and Pillars of the Earth, anything with strong atmosphere and world building. I’m loving the whole Gothic Barcelona vibe in Shadow of the Wind and I’m definitely going to buy the rest of the series!

For reference, some books I’ve loved:

• Pillars of the Earth trilogy (Ken Follett is one of my favourite authors)
• Song of Achilles / Circe
• Lonesome Dove — not sure if it counts as “world building,” but I loved the classic Western era

On my TBR:

• The Count of Monte Cristo
• The City of Brass
• The Lies of Locke Lamora

I’m looking for books that completely transport me into a new world, historical, fantasy, literary, whatever. I always come to Reddit for recs, so I’d love any suggestions that fit this vibe, thank youuu!
