There is nothing that I love more than a book that absolutely keeps me at the edge of my seat the entire time. My favourite piece of fiction is probably Attack on Titan due to just how tight the main plot is.

In terms of books/TV, I really enjoyed Game of Thrones, anything written by Suzanne Collins ("Hunger Games" and the "Gregor The Overlander" series in particular), Arcane.

I also read VNs and particularly enjoy Umineko and Higurashi. As for pure video game stories, I particularly liked the story of Expedition 33, and the Xenoblade games.

I think the most important things for me are for a story to have an interesting, unpredictable main plot that broadly covers some philosophical/political theme and also very 3-dimensional characters where the text/story really explores their psychology. I don't care as much about world building and descriptions (though obviously welcome).

Right now I'm mostly into fantasy/dark fantasy so I would appreciate recommendations in that genre, but if you have a suggestion you think really fits the above description, please go for it!

Also to give maybe an example of an author I didn't enjoy so much: since I'm really into fantasy I've been recommended Brandon Sanderson. I've read Mistborn and the first book in the Stormlight Archive and while I think his worldbuilding is extremely strong and the language he uses very solid, I didn't care that much for either plot or any of the characters.

    Thank you very much!
