Howdy,
I am looking for books that are crime horror like Saw, Seven, the Batman. Not necessarily gratuitous but that has that grimey feel and wacky killer theme. And/or who-dun-it slashers akin to Scream, Heart Eyes, or I know what you did last summer.
I am a very mid reader who in his late 20s has tried hard to get better and read more, working through that adhd as well. So bonus points if it has a good pace or is novella length.

Escape! by Iain Rob Wright
If you want the isolation aspect, and for some reason you haven’t read it, The Shining. The reputation as being one of King’s very best is well-earned.
Dean Koontz gets a bit of a rep. But he has some legit bangers too. Intensity is one of them.
The Elementals by Michael McDowell if you want the isolated, haunted house vibe. No spoiler, as the title gives it away. What’s dangerous here isn’t a person.
