I’m a slow reader and want to become well-read this year and 2027. What I want most to read is the essential sci-fi and fantasy literature. Something that’s helped is making a list of books that should be priorities for me.
I’m a VERY new reader. Been reading since 2021 but it’s been a very slow process. I’ve read about 11 Cosmere books, the Gargoyles SLG comics, and Watchmen. Currently reading The Stormlight Archive. I would love more recommendations especially if they’re written by black or female authors. Noticed my list is missing those so far.
These are the fantasy books on it:
- The Stormlight Archive
- The Hobbit + Lord of the Rings
- The Silmarillion
- Chronicles of the Avatar
- The Wheel of Time
- Malazan Book of the Fallen
- A Song of Ice and Fire
- Realm of the Elderlings
- Harry Potter
- Riordanverse
- The Kingkiller Chronicle
- Pact web serial
- Pale web serial
- The Witcher series
- The Powder Mage series
- Lightbringer Series
These are the sci-fi books
- The Murderbot Diaries
- The Expanse
- Legend of the Galactic Heroes
- Original Thrawn Trilogy
- Frank Herbert’s Dune
- Red Rising series
- Sun Eater
- Children of Time
- The Vorkosigan Saga
- Worm web serial
- Ward web serial
- Twig web serial
- Neuromancer
- Bobiverse

Kindred, by Octavia E. Butler
The Broken Earth trilogy by NK Jemisin
The Binti series by Nnedi Okorafor – these are novellas and they are amazing! They’re written by a Nigerian American woman author, and they’re some of the most imaginative books I’ve read
Ursula Le Guin’s books – The Left Hand of Darkness, Lavinia, and the Wizard of Earthsea are my favorites of hers, they are all incredible
Discworld books by Terry Pratchett
