i grew up as a jehovah’s witness (which is up to debate whether they are a cult or not, hence the quotations). i’m 21 now and am trying to heal from that part of my life. my family isn’t very involved in my life, and when they are it isn’t good. i’m also experiencing a lot of firsts at my big age, like dressing up for halloween and getting birthday presents. i want to read a book about someone going through or has gone through this too, i think it would be good for me and so interesting to see how someone else might go about dealing with this

Leaving the Witness, by Amber Scorah
Educated by Tara Westover fits this pretty well. She goes through a lot of firsts later in the book.
Unfollow by Megan Phelps-Roper. She grew up in and left the Westboro Baptist Church. She also has a Ted talk if you want to get an idea of her story
Following – I was raised JW too 😮💨
