Working on a new project and that means looking for inspiration. Or as I like to call it, a guilt-free excuse to buy some books! And this one is a little out there formally, so I’m looking for books that might also suggest way into the project itself. There are two main things I’m looking for here
Form: basically, novels that use footnotes or endnotes — either for the classically academic way of citing or explaining things, or telling a secondary story within them
Them: so obviously form is a big reason House and IJ are jumping off points but there’s also something specific in their stories/themes I’m curious to see some more of: something about characters engaging with art objects that may or may not be cursed; art and artefacts as precursors to something transformational (in a bad way). I guess like, Lovecraft, Hellbound Heart, and king in Yellow are the best examples of this?
If there’s anything else specific I can provide to narrow down recs just let me know! Thanks so much
