I am looking for something to read to my students. We are locked down due to missile strikes and scrambling to teach remote. They are scared and their families are stressed. I just want to see their faces and read them a book online. I can use my public library to get almost any book.
I have two groups of students, 2nd and 3rd graders. My students have language and literacy challenges, i.e. dyslexia, working memory challenges, executive functioning challenges.
Can you recommend something light? Something a little more complex for my 3rd graders, and something shorter for my 2nd graders.
I don't need it to teach them anything, I don't need a message of resilience, I just want a distraction, connection, and love for literacy.
My first thought was Sideways Stories from Wayside School, but I am not sure my students would "get it?"
Any suggestions are appreciated. Also if you have one for me… I am also losing my mind 4 days into an escalating conflict with no end in sight…. nothing heavy…
