    This one hits.

I just got a copy of Hyperion, because everyone says I’d love it and I’d adore Dan’s work.

Then I find out yesterday that he passed away last week.

I remember when Le Guin passed away, there was an outpouring of love and tributes to her from countless authors of several genres.

    Same with Anne Rice.

    1. I’ve seen comments and not nice ones. C’est la vie. Or la mort, as it happens.

    2. He lost most of his goodwill when he started writing stories about how evil Muslims were going to subjugate America with help from Obama.

Hyperion was from before he went crazy, though, so I wouldn’t feel bad about enjoying it if you still want to.

Le Guin was a much more important (and better) writer. Hyperion is just another middling sci fi book

He had some very controversial opinions, to put it EXTREMELY politely. Most authors seem to have taken the ‘if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything nice at all’ stance, though I saw a few pointing out said opinions.

      Hyperion is an excellent book.

But Dan Simmons was not a very good person, and wrote other books that were *not* good. He’s pretty infamously racist, unfortunately.
