My caseworker has recommended that I go to counselling because my normal-meter is "off" after enduring 5 years in an extremely abusive relationship. She wants me to get therapy before entering another relationship so that I am re-sensitized to warning signs so I don't end up in the same spot in another 5 years. I am already taking my child to counselling which is 200 bucks per week and I really don't feel like paying double that for myself to go too now that we have a single-income household. I figure I will be fine by investing in some self-help books instead. I already have "The Body Keeps Score," anyone have other suggestions? Even podcasts?

I suggest you speak to your child’s therapist to see if they know of any low cost resources for ptsd and abuse recovery.
