I'm a British expat in Germany, been here about 10 years now. I speak decent German, I have friends here, I like the city. But theres this permanent low level feeling of being slightly outside of everything. Not in a sad way, more like watching a film where you understand the plot but keep missing the jokes.
I'd love to read novels that capture that specific feeling. Not travel memoirs or "a year in Provence" type stuff. Fiction that gets at what its like to build a real life somewhere you'll always be a little foreign.
Any language, any setting. Thanks in advance.
