I'm looking for books that involve an animal (anthropomorphic or not) as the main character, and that will end up making me do some self-reflecting on my life, think about conflicts and struggles that adults deal with, and maybe make me teary eyed. More grownup/adult versions of the books we read as children where animals were the focus and taught us to be good people, basically. But as an adult, I still want that nostalgic feel of reading a fiction book but being able to connect as an adult dealing with a different set of life's challenges. IDK if any of that makes sense or a book like that exists lol

Watership Down
Ostensibly, *The Art of Racing in the Rain.* It’s my good friends favorite book; I kind of hated it.
Watership Down is a great suggestion.
Not fiction, but if you were a fan of Winnie the Pooh growing up, you might enjoy The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff.
I’ve heard Plague Dogs is good, I haven’t read it myself yet but it’s on my TBR. I also agree with the previous comment that Watership Down might be what you’re looking for.
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. Marcellus isn’t THE main character but he drives much of the plot, and narrates significant sections.
A Wolf Story by James Byron Huggins
