Can be any genre but I’m looking for something that feels relatable in an authentic way please (not a romanticised depiction of depression). Ideally there would be some sort of redemption arc or sense that there might be some light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you.

*The Wedding People* might be what you’re looking for! TW for infertility issues, su*cide.

AI Description: The Wedding People by Alison Espach is a 2024 novel about Phoebe Stone, a woman who arrives at a Newport hotel for a wedding weekend with no luggage and a plan to end her life, but ends up getting swept up in the chaotic event, forming unexpected connections, and finding a new path forward. The book is a blend of humor, dark comedy, and emotional depth, exploring themes of grief, depression, and human connection.

If you’re OK with horror-comedy, Chuck Tingle’s “Lucky Day” is about a woman who survives a ridiculous horror-movie-style disaster, and has a breakdown about it. The book’s as much about her coping with her overwhelming apathy as it is about investigating suspicious disasters.

    3. The October Daye series by Seanan Mcguire starts with the protagonist very depressed but that changes as the series progresses.

Kind of a wild card, but Big Swiss might be worth checking out. Not necessarily a redemptive ending, but it’s entertaining and a page-turner.
