I’m looking for a slow-burn workplace romance with the following elements:
-
A workplace setting where the main characters see each other every day, creating small routines, habits, and familiar interactions that slowly build intimacy.
-
Territorial jealousy and subtle, healthy possessiveness from the male lead – he’s usually acting indifferent about everything or grumpy, but jealousy unsettles him. It puts him in a bad mood, and he quietly sabotages her chances with other men in subtle ways.
-
Their personal traumas shape who they are, and without realizing it, those wounds make them fit together perfectly – like pieces of a puzzle.
-
A strong contrast in energy: the male lead is masculine, tough, and imposing, while the female lead is soft, feminine, and graceful – not naïvely cheerful, but gentle with depth, pride, and emotional strength.
-
An age gap, where she is in her twenties and he is in his late thirties or early forties.
-
Moments where he realizes how much he misses her habits, antics, and smile when she suddenly isn’t around.
-
The first time that this grumpy, serious, intimidating man smiles because of her.
-
A man known for being rough and intimidating showing unexpectedly gentle touches toward her.
-
A boss–employee dynamic (not the overused CEO/assistant trope).
-
The male lead struggles with anger and a difficult temperament, but over time she becomes the one person who can calm him and keep him grounded.
-
The workplace feels like a second home.
-
A true slow burn, but without unnecessary filler or distracting side plots.
-
The male lead is a stern, strict, commanding boss whom everyone at work fears.
-
He increasingly becomes involved in her life outside work – protecting her in difficult situations – until suddenly an unspoken bond forms, and he begins to feel that she belongs with him and it makes him feel territorial when it comes to her.
Side Note: I came here after reading Luna And The Lie by Mariana Zapata and I really want something so similar because I loved it so much and I can't move on, that beautiful ache because of the novel is still there, if you know what I mean. 😊
Thank you in advance for all the suggestions. ❤️
