I usually read poem collections and light novels, but I also really want to start reading classics.

Just for reference I love reading psychological thriller, mystery, romance (the slow burn type), plus I also loveee those depressing stories. I also like some stories with surprising plots/twists, and I don't mind if it has a happy/sad/open ending.

Please give some recommendations as someone just starting with classics. There are so many classic books which made me unsure where or which to start. I'm not really sure if there are classic books with the kind of stuffs I mentioned earlier, if there are any please do share. I also want to explore so please just share ANY books similar to my reference •ᴗ•

If you didn’t read it for school already; Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

    2. You could try L.M. Montgomery’s novel Blue Castle (she’s also the author of the widely hailed classic Anne of Green Gables). It fits your requirements perfectly. It’s depressing, it has a slow burn romance, and it has a good plot. It’s a beautiful read. A classic, and written in the 1920s so the language may be hard to get into if one isn’t used to reading it, and the first few chapters may be slow, but bear with it because it is so, so worth it. Please do give it a try!
