This is my first request and I’d like to request suggestions for well-written and informative books that analyze things that pertain to the spectrum of “girly” things.

Anything from dolls, Disney princesses, fashion, pop stars, cartoons, chick flicks, maho shojo… as long as it’s intellectual, offers a new pov, and possibly doesn’t ignore the intersections of race, sexual orientation and identity, ability and class.

Edit: I think I should be more clear. I’m more interested in analyzing these things as pieces of art than focusing on social implication and feminine performance.

Like how they influence each other, the media languages they use, the shared iconography, as well of course as the messages and ideologies.

Like, instead of a book about how Britney Spears music relates to girlhood and gender roles, I’m requesting a good book *about* Britney Spears. And not her biography, which I read, but more an essay about her art, her fashion, the lyrics of her songs and her public persona.
