I'd like to see the subversions of the noble hyper advanced long dead super race/species.
We see it in:
IRL – Atlantis
Halo – The Forerunners
Stargate – The Ancients
Star Trek – Progenitors
The Elder Scrolls – Dwarves
Legend of Zelda – Zonai
Lord of The Rings – Númenóreans
Superman – Kryptonians
She-Ra – Adora's Ancestors
The Visigoths must have partied like mad when Rome fell. Why not these guys? It sounds like they wrote their own history/propoganda down before they bit it and we're the ones believing it. Hmmm that actually sounds like a good short story. Archeologists. Dead alien race. Only the state sponsored, censored, and regulated communications survived most notably the propoganda about noble heros defending their people.
Anyway, looking for stories where the ancient advanced civilization were dicks.

I also recommend the Elric of Melniboné series by Michael Moorcock, although that’s set during the fall of an ancient civilization full of terrible asshats
