I have been reading a lot of audiobooks with the Libby and Hoopla apps. Id love suggestions that are available between the two.
I consider Sidney Sheldon, John Steinbeck, John Irving, and newly added Cixin Liu as my favorite authors of all time. With the exception of some hard to find the n print/audio Steinbeck books, I've exhausted those authors bibliographies.
As a result of " running out" of books, I've started to read more suggested books on my app home pages. I've discovered that "woman's fiction" as a category has a LOT of amazing titles. Further, most of the last several books I've read have had similar vibes and styles of storytelling. Some of those are Go as a River, Where the Rivers Merge, Braiding Sweetgrass,Where the Crawdads sing, and The Things we Leave Unfinished are all titles that I have greatly enjoyed and try my best to find similar.
The similarities that I am enjoying are: the books are all stories that span a generation or more, usually the story of a woman from childhood to adulthood. These books are predominantly set in the southeast or other environmentally diverse settings. Nature and conservation/ land stewardship, and self reflection are all common themes. The stories generally follow a linear timeless ne or alternate chapters/sections with past and present. Most that incorporate environment are based in research or are even non-fiction, and make the message of conservation a major plot point that still is quietly discussed through the book.
I would love to know what books or authors fit this so I can keep voraciously reading. I'dm fine with series but generally prefer standalone or trilogy or less books. The only thing I generally don't like in these books is if there is romance/gratuitous sex scenes. I am not a prude, romance has its place, but I generally don't want constant sex scenes. I listen in my car and it is *awkward*, to say the least, when you're at a red light and the person next to you can hear graphic details….. but the books don't have to be completely free of it either. Thanks for helping a gal out!
