My mum is sick and my work (based in Norway) offered to buy her flowers. But she's not really a fan of cut flowers, so I'm thinking to get her more books to help with recovery. Since it's supposed to be a gift from them, I'd love to find some Norwegian or Norway-related books. She likes (heavy) literary fiction, traditional cultures, travel writing, food, gardening, and I work in coffee, so any connection with that would be a bonus.
So I guess my dream book for this would be something like fiction depicting the cultural life of Norwegian peasants in some remote pre-industrial fjord… You get the picture. Does this spark any ideas? Failing that, any great fiction by Norwegian writers? Or evocative travel or food writing?
