I want to read a book about Norse history. I like historical fiction. What’s a good book about early Norse life that is not a romance?

I enjoyed the books by Ken Follette, Kingsbridge series, and now want to find books on other cultures that incorporate their early history without being a mushy romance. Any suggestions?
