I’m on page 105 and I feel like I don’t know what’s going on half the time or who most of the characters are. I don’t know where they came from or how they got there. I don’t know how the Kid, Toadvine and the Veteran ended up with the Judge and his crew when they were being held captive in the small town. I also don’t understand a lot of words being used, and with the lack of punctuation it’s really hard for me to follow.

Does it get better or easier to understand? I know the punctuation part doesn’t change, I can live with that, but does the story get easier to follow at some point?

welcome to the club. it’s like trying to find your way in a dark maze with a broken flashlight, but somehow it’s worth it in the end. just hang in there

His writing style for this book is definitely unique. Unfortunately it does not get any easier. Following along with the audiobook was super helpful for me.

    3. Once you get used to the difficult writing style, then you are ready to struggle with the actual story. Which is horrible.

    4. It’s the only book I DNF’d in the past 3 years. Probably didn’t help that I read largely in the evening in bed when my concentration levels were at their lowest. It’s certainly a book I’d have to read when I’m at peak mental performance.

Not really. I understood what’s happening. I like when authors make readers decide wether they are going to swim or sink. I mean Malazan is one of my favourite series. That being said i think he has written much better stuff that’s much more approachable and those two aren’t causal.
